CrossFit Games 2021 - What to Expect

health and fitness after 50

The CrossFit Games 2021 are on the horizon, and many of the participants are incredibly excited. Apart from the usual men's and ladies' competitions, there will be some women's events. You've heard of the Reebok equipment, the Pegboard contest and the Cutting system. But do you know what to expect from the women's competition? Keep reading to find the answer! And don't forget to check out the CrossFit news page for updates on the competition!

Women are competing

The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. Koski took the overall title after she held her lead through the entire competition. Tall finished second and Eramoo O’Connell third, respectively. It was the first Games for women, and the women's side hoped to complete the podium.

The women's competition is filled with top-level athletes. The field features nine athletes, including a 19 year-old Australian powerhouse who won this competition last year. Kara Saunders, an Australian athlete who finished second in Australia in the team division and eleventh overall in 2020 is another contender. Andrea Nisler is another rising star. She competed in the team category in 2018 and placed third in the United States, and 15th overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

Pegboard at Crossfit Games 2020 was a first. It was also added to the Games' Olympic summer program. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 for the men and took home his third Games victory. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Competitors are tested on their grip strength and coordination in the Pegboard contest. Competitors hold two wooden pegs between each hand and compete to win. The competition was intense, and the athletes left feeling satisfied after completing their Pegboard.

System of cutting

CrossFit Games will use a cutting system again for individual competitions. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. CrossFit must also answer the question of how it will adjust the points following cuts. The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.

The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. The top 30 finishers compete in a sprint pairt to determine who is the top ten. From there, the top 20 athletes compete in the remaining six events. Veteran Games participants criticized Castro's system, claiming that the cuts were too drastic.

Reebok's equipment

Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. The Nano X1 are the new shoes. They can be used for multiple fitness goals. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar upper promotes breathability while ensuring durability. The shoe's responsiveness can be enhanced by its firm midsole and RopePro Tech.

CrossFit and Reebok's partnership will end in 2020. Reebok has sponsored these Games for over a decade. However, it now appears that the company's involvement in the Games is decreasing. Reebok won’t pay for the Games’ prize, but they will continue to make all athletic apparel, equipment, and gear worn by athletes. The company will no more refer to itself by the name "Reebok Fitness Games", as it does right now.

How Metabolic health is key to aging well

People are living longer lives today than at any point in history. However, people are getting sicker as they live longer. Our current medical science approach is not working, even though we've made many advances.

We need to change how we think about health and aging. To achieve healthy aging, we must look at metabolic health as more than just weight loss. It is also important to consider overall wellness.

You must ensure your metabolism is strong and healthy throughout your life if you want to lead a long, active life.

The good news? There are many things you can do to improve your metabolism. These 7 foods can be incorporated into your diet.

  1. Resveratrol in blueberries has been shown to support cell longevity. They also contain antioxidants and vitamins C & E.
  2. Beans such as pinto beans and lentils provide excellent fiber and plant protein. These nutrients help keep blood sugar levels steady so they won't spike and crash.
  3. Broccoli has sulforaphane. It has been proven to protect cells from DNA damage. It might even slow down the progression of cancer.
  4. Chia Seeds contain high levels of fiber and omega-3 fat acids. They're also loaded with antioxidants and protein. These nutrients promote gut health, brain function and heart health.

Can I drink alcohol while exercising?

Yes. Alcohol has increased energy expenditure, speed up recovery time, and reduced soreness.

Alcohol also increases insulin sensitivity, making it easier to absorb glucose.

Alcohol can also cause dehydration which can lead to a slower metabolism. It also reduces testosterone production, which may decrease muscle-building potential.

These are the reasons women should not drink alcohol before going to work out. Women who have consumed a lot of alcohol should wait at most 24 hours before working out.

The best thing for women who are pregnant is to avoid alcohol.

Men should only consume one drink per day.

Avoid trans fats. Trans fats can increase LDL (the negative) cholesterol levels and decrease HDL (the positive) cholesterol.

Trans fats can also be found in deep-fried food, fast food, packaged bakery goods, snack cakes, as well as other processed foods.

These unhealthy fats cause inflammation which leads to heart disease, diabetes, and other health problems.

Avoid foods that are sweetened with artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners increase the risk of getting cancer.

These chemicals are found in many products, including soft drinks, candy bars, chewing gum, as well as candy bars. They appear in many other foods, including meat, poultry, fish, and eggs.

Artificial sweeteners can be saccharin or cyclamate, sucralose, sorbitol or aspartame.

The American Heart Association recommends avoiding these chemicals because they may damage DNA in cells.
